If you have one child, it is very unlikely that a school bus will hit your child. However, imagine you have a hundred million children. Now, it is much more likely that a school bus will hit one or more of your children during their lifetimes.
The point is that at scale, you have to worry about things you don't have to worry too much about things an average person does not.
